Great dishes for Idul Fitri

Antara

Idul Fitri, locally known as Lebaran, is often synonymous with moments of forgiveness. This is the time when you get together with family members, friends, siblings and neighbors and forgive them of their past mistakes. This festivity then takes you to enjoy your reunion moments together with people you haven'€™t seen in ages.

Being prepared for the moment when all of these guests arrive at your doorstep during the celebration is important. In the days leading up to Idul Fitri, it would be best to prepare yourself with a list of dishes to serve your guests.

The following are a number of delectable dishes to liven up your social gatherings during the Lebaran:

Nastar cakes:

These popular cakes come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from circular and flower-like to all sorts of other shapes. The name is a combination of two Dutch words: ananas, which means pineapples, and taart, which means cake. Back then, these cakes only contained pineapples, but as time went on, people have filled them with various jams.

Kastengel cakes:

An Indonesian favorite, this cake is beloved among those who love cheese. Like the Nastar cake, the Kastengel also originates from the Netherlands. The name is a mix of kaas, Dutch for cheese, and stengels, which is Dutch for rod. These rod-shaped cheese cakes are popular for their addictive flavors.

Opor ayam:

Chicken braised in coconut milk is well-known for its unique flavor. It has also become a staple on Idul Fitri dining menus, usually served with ketupat (rice cakes).

Wafer sticks:

Aside from opor ayam, you'€™ll find plenty of these sweet foods at your typical Idul Fitri food gathering. The kids particularly love them, so don'€™t forget to have these on your menu.

All of these are dishes that you can either easily buy or make on your own. A particularly easy dish to make for Idul Fitri is chocolate coconut pastries. The ingredients you will need for this dish are as follows:

- 50 grams of fine sugar
- 100 grams of margarine
- 1 tablespoon of coconut milk
- 25 grams of roasted grated coconuts
- 100 grams of wheat flour
- 1 egg with white and yolk separated
- 30 grams of melted chocolate

Here is how to make it:

1. Mix and stir the sugar and margarine.

2. Add the coconut milk and egg yolks into your mix.
