police officer died instantly and two others suffered serious injuries when 20 people launched an assault with man-made guns and machetes at dawn on Thursday.
Brig. Irvanudin, 27, who suffered serious injuries to his body, died instantly and was handed over to his family for funeral proceedings in Limbung Village, Bajeng District.
Brig. Mus Muliadi and 2nd Brig. Usman were still undergoing intensive medical treatment to cure serious injuries inflicted upon their bodies.
Spokesman for the South Sulawesi Provincial Police Sr. Comr. Frans Barung Mangera said that a special team had been set up to investigate the attack on the three on-duty police officers.
'The team has yet to identify the attackers and the main reason behind the attack. They are still working to investigate the case thoroughly,' he said.
He said that the police had already questioned five witnesses. According to an on-duty officer present at the police post, the attack went on for only five minutes, and the attackers disappeared after attacking the three officers.(+++)
