he House of Representatives'€™ Commission IX on labor and health affairs plans to summon Manpower Minister Hanif Dhakiri and the Workers Social Security Management Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) to seek clarification of the government'€™s contentious withdrawal of the old-age risk (JHT) program.

'€œThe commission plans to hold a hearing with the minister and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan'€™s board of directors on Monday,'€ commission member Okky Asokawati said in Jakarta on Friday.

According to Okky, Government Regulation No. 46/2015 on the withdrawal of JHT funds contravenes the 2004 national social security system.

'€œUnder the old regulation, workers could withdraw their JHT funds after five years of membership in the program, but under the new regulation, the JHT funds can be withdrawn only after 10 years of membership, and the withdrawal is limited to ten percent. This will affect workers,'€ he said as quoted by kompas.com.

The government and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan have defended the new regulation, which they say aims to protect workers when they retire. (rms)(++++)
