he much-discussed case of alleged online shopping fraud, which implicated e-commerce giant Lazada, has nearly come to a close with the store confirming that it was a case of accidentally exchanged products.
Lazada announced on Friday that the results of a recently launched investigation revealed that a smartphone ordered by consumer Danis Darusman was unintentionally exchanged with a bar of soap ordered by another consumer.
'The products were accidentally exchanged because of an error made by certain individuals in the supply chain,' Lazada Indonesia public relations manager Tania Amalia told The Jakarta Post on Friday.
Tania said that her company was taking the case seriously, with its supply chain currently under routine inspections.
'We are stepping up our supply chain inspections,' she said, adding that the move was necessary to prevent such a case from reoccurring in the future.
Tania said that Lazada would immediately compensate Danis for the inconvenience by providing the consumer with the product he had ordered.
'Our costumer protection policy is specifically aimed at guaranteeing that consumers receive the correct and genuine product,' she said.
The case began last week after Danis, a resident of Jakarta, received a package containing a bar of soap instead of the new Apple iPhone 6 Plus he had ordered from Lazada.
He then took to social media Twitter to complain about the incident. Danis' complaints subsequently went viral, which drew mixed reactions from hundreds of netizens. (alm/ika)(++++)
