The rupiah interbank trade rate in Jakarta strengthened by 17 basis points to Rp 13,308 per dollar on Friday morning from Rp 13,325 per dollar in the previous trade.
'The rupiah rate moves into the positive area even though its movement is limited as investors wait for the results of the Greek referendum and the creditors' response to them,' Monex Investindo Futures research section head Ariston Tjendra said as quoted by Antara news agency.
He said that the US dollar was weakened by the release of US non-farm payrolls in June, which was below market expectations.
Other economic data would function as market movers, including the service sector activity index in Spain and Britain and retail sales in the Eurozone.
'Data of service sector activities and sales in Europe will contribute greatly to global financial markets,' he said.
Chief researcher of NH Korindo Securities Indonesia Reza Priyambada said that hopes among investors for the acceleration of infrastructure finance disbursement by the government in the second semester would give positive sentiment to the domestic currency.
'The sentiment is fairly balanced so it makes the rupiah movement firmer,' he said. (hhr)
