AKARTA: City-owned bus operator PT Transjakarta announced on Friday that it would temporarily stop the operation of 12 buses following a fire in Salemba, Central Jakarta, friday morning.
PT Transjakarta president director Antonius Kosasih explained that the 12 buses had the same specifications as a bus that caught fire at the Salemba bus stop on Friday morning.
The buses, branded Komodo, were locally made and belong to transportation firm PT Eka Sari Lorena.
The ban, Antonius said, would enable checks on the technical condition of the remaining buses to prevent such incidents reoccurring.
'We've asked Lorena to contact their technicians to work with our technicians to conduct audits and technical examinations on the 12 buses. We will not allow them to operate before they've been checked,' he said as quoted by kompas.com.
Antonius admitted that the company had never conducted an audit on the operation of its buses, as no requirement to do so was written into any contracts.
