AKARTA: Vice President Jusuf Kalla said on Friday that he had held several meetings with former finance minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, currently a World Bank managing director, amid speculation that she had been tapped by President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo as the new finance minister.
Kalla said the meetings took place in Jakarta and Bali.
Kalla said, however, that the meetings did not discuss a possible offer for Sri Mulyani to return to the country and join the Cabinet.
'We talked about the economy, not a position in the government,' Kalla said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Kalla also said it would not be appropriate to call Sri Mulyani back home to serve in the Cabinet as she had a bright career abroad.
'She has a respectable position abroad. I don't think we should bring home a figure who has a reputation in the international forum,' he said.
