he National Police's Criminal Investigations Directorate has said the police are set to this week question HW, a suspect in alleged graft and money laundering cases related to the selling of the state's portion of condensate, which involved the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force (SKKMigas) and refiner PT Trans Pacific Petrochemical Indotama (TPPI).
HW will be questioned in Singapore as he is undergoing medical treatment there, the police further said.
'We have coordinated with the Singaporean police this morning. It is planned that we will depart for Singapore to examine the suspect this week,' Criminal Investigations Directorate chief Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso said as quoted by Antara news agency at the National Police headquarters on Monday.
He said HW would be questioned as a witness. The questioning would be conducted at the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore. 'He must undergo his questioning at the embassy,' Budi said.
Earlier, HW's lawyer sent a letter to the National Police headquarters, requesting that the questioning be conducted in Singapore. The letter said that HW would undergo heart bypass surgery in Singapore so it was impossible for him to be questioned in Indonesia.
In the condensate case, the police have named three people as suspects, identified by their initials as RP, DH and HW. Of the three suspects, only HW has not yet been questioned as he remains in Singapore.
TPPI was reported to have violated then Vice President Jusuf Kalla's policy, in which TPPI was appointed as the implementing agency to sell the state's portion of condensate and, according to one of the requirements it had to fulfill, the refiner was forced to sell the processed condensate to state oil and gas company Pertamina. In fact, TPPI sold the condensate to other parties, both local and foreign companies. (ebf)(+++)
