nergy company PT Saka Energi Indonesia (SEI) says it has discovered a gas reserve containing more than 500 billion cubic feet of gas in the South Sesulu (Sesulu block) working area in Penajam Paser Utara, off the coast of East Kalimantan.
'Thanks to the company's hard work, we have found a new gas reserve, which can add to the number of gas wells in Penajam Paser Utara regency,' Penajam Paser Utara deputy regent Mustaqim MZ said as quoted by Antara on Tuesday.
He was speaking to journalists in Penajam on Monday.
Mustaqim said the new gas reserve had a flow rate of 18 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd). The discovery could potentially increase Indonesia's gas reserves by 1.2 trillion cubic feet, he went on.
The deputy regent further said the gas reserve discovery could increase Penajam Paser Utara's locally generated recurring revenues (PAD) from oil and gas revenue-sharing.
'The new gas reserve will boost the regency's PAD and this will eventually accelerate development growth in Penajam Paser Utara,' said Mustaqim.
He said a 100 percent production target of the Sesulu block was expected to be achieved in 2019.
The Sesulu block is located in Penajam Paser Utara regency, or around 60 kilometers from Balikpapan.(ebf)(++++)
