In the first game between the Senayan Lions and WPP Wizards, after winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Lions scored 190/4 in their 20 overs.
Rajiv Ramnarayan remained unbeaten on 60 runs, while Faisal Hashmi scored 34 runs. Manu and Dhiraj claimed two wickets each for the Wizards. The Wizards' response was led by Ajay 52 runs and William Noronha (41), but they could not prevent the team from falling short by 15 runs, finishing on 175/5. Raj claimed 2/19.
In the second semifinal, played at the same venue, Jaguars CC took on the TKCC Royals. Batting first, the Royals finished with 205/9 in their 20 overs. Abhiraj made a quick-fire 86. Corbon (3/32), Martin Eddy (3/33) and Rimmer (2/31) were amongst the wickets. The Jaguars' chase was led by Corbon who top-scored with 54 runs.
However, the Royals ensured they defended their score successfully, thereby handing the Jaguars their first defeat of the season, by 44 runs. Deipak took 3/26 while Abhiraj claimed 2/33.
Earlier on Saturday, at the same venue, two of the last league games were played in order to decide the semifinalists.
In the first game, between the WPP Wizards and DKI, the Wizards scored 181/6, led by Bob (58 runs) and Pallav (54 runs). Patrick on 3/45 and Yeri with 2/29 shared the wickets.
The Wizards then returned with the ball and shot out DKI for just 67 runs. Ajay (2/12) and Bhuwan (2/19) shared the spoils.
In the second game, between TKCC and the Metro Indians, batting first, TKCC scored a mammoth 257/3. Chetan Suryavamshi, who scored a fine 100, and Viraj Bhammar who remained unbeaten on 94, were the wreckers-in-chief. The Metro Indians were valiant in their response.
Rahul Pagad came agonizingly close to a century before falling for 99 runs, while Kiruba Sankar scored 61 runs. Metro eventually finished on 207/6, losing by 50 runs. Hitesh took 2/20.
The Senayan Lions and TKCC Royals will now battle it out for the coveted T20 Championship Title, to be played at the GMIS grounds on Sunday July 12, which expects to produce another high-voltage contest.
