The visit is part of their research into the lake'€™s geo-condition to assess whether Toba'€™s caldera is eligible to be declared a world geopark heritage site.

'€œThe assessment team will conduct research into Toba'€™s caldera and its geological, cultural and environmental diversity to be recognized as a world geological heritage site,'€ the head of the Tourism and Culture Agency in Toba Samosir, Ultri Sonlahir, said in Balige, North Sumatra, on Thursday.

From Silalahi, the team will move to Sigulati, Batu Parsidangan Huta Siallagan and Batu Gantung in Parapat, Simulungun, said Ultri.

After visiting TB Silalahi Batak Museum in Toba Samosir and having a short lesson on Batak literature on Saturday, the team will enjoy a series of Batak traditional cultural performances. At the end of their visit on Sunday, the team will go to Sipinsur in Humbang Hasundutan regency.

'€œFollowing the short visit, the UN assessment team will give input to the North Sumatra administration and UNESCO for Lake Toba'€™s development and for the recognition of the Toba caldera as a world geopark heritage site,'€ Ultri said as quoted by Antara news agency. (rms)(++++)
