orth Sumatra regional secretary Hasban Ritonga said it was him that had signed off on a Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigation order to search the North Sumatra governor's offices in Medan on Saturday. Afterwards he said, he reported the KPK's plan to the province's governor, Gatot Pujo Nugroho.
'On Saturday evening, I signed a KPK order letter allowing an investigation team to search the North Sumatra governor's offices and of this I have informed Governor Gatot Pujo Nugroho, who is still outside the city on official business,' Hasban said as quoted by Antara, when he was interviewed by journalists at the governor's office in Medan, early on Sunday.
Antara reported that until 1 a.m. local time on Sunday, KPK investigators were seen searching several rooms at the governor's office, including the rooms of the North Sumatra governor and the head of the provincial administration's finance bureau, Ahmad Fuad Lubis.
Hasban said the search was related to a complaint recently made by Ahmad, where he filed a lawsuit against the Attorney General's Office (AGO) at the Medan State Administrative Court (PTUN).
'I don't know what the finance bureau head's lawsuit is all about,' he said, adding the North Sumatra administration would be cooperative with the ongoing KPK investigation into the case.
'I also do hope that all parties can uphold the presumption of innocence principle while the case is still being investigated by law enforcers,' said Hasban.
Earlier, KPK investigators searched both the official residence and the office of the PTUN Medan chief justice. KPK investigators could not yet confirm the search of the North Sumatra Governor office.
In a popular plaza in Medan, on Thursday, the KPK arrested several PTUN Medan judges after it caught them receiving bribe money from an OC Kaligis & Associates lawyer. (ebf)
