our Chinese shipping firms have expressed their interest in setting up new businesses in Indonesia with total estimated investments of US$200 million, an investment official says.
Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) deputy director for investment planning Tamba Hutapea said on Monday that two out of the four investors had already conducted market research in Indonesia, as a sign of their serious interest.
'One of the firms has also got a local partner and they will finalize their cooperation deal at the end of this month, including the choice of a location for investment,' he said in a statement.
To facilitate the investment, the board would provide relevant information, particularly specific sites for shipbuilding, Tamba added.
So far, the board has already identified locations suitable for shipyards, including in Lampung, East Java and Banten.
The interest was conveyed during an investment marketing event last week in Fujian and Zhejiang, China, in collaboration with the Bank of China.
