oordinating Economic Minister Sofyan Djalil has said the development of electricity plants, which are part of Indonesia's 35,000 Megawatt (MW) electricity program, in areas across the country is running in line with plans.
'State-owned electricity company PLN's president director Sofyan Basir has reported the latest development of the program which is so far 'on track',' he said as quoted by Antara news agency on Tuesday.
The minister was speaking after attending a meeting on electricity led by Vice President Jusuf Kalla at the Vice Presidential Office in Jakarta.
He said problems related to the grid or electricity networks could be handled as planned. 'It seems everything is on track,' he asserted.
Despite the progress, Sofyan said, the program was facing a number of obstacles, such as land conflicts in several areas including in Halimun, West Java, which were expected to be immediately resolved.
Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Indroyono Soesilo, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said, Agrarian and Spatial Planning Minister Ferry Mursyidan Baldan and Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya attended the meeting.
Earlier, Sudirman said the government aimed to settle permit issuance problems, which had become a critical obstacle in the implementation of the 35,000-MW electricity program, within the next two months.
'After the Idul Fitri holiday, there will be a technical meeting targeted to resolve existing problems, after which, within the next one or two months, local administrations can issue recommendations on the settlement of permit issuance obstacles in their respective areas,' he said in Surabaya, East Java, on Saturday.
The minister said that holding the technical meeting was a decision from a coordination meeting held last Thursday between the central government and governors and regents from 16 provinces and regencies across Indonesia.
As reported earlier, the planning of construction activities in five sectors, namely shipyards, electricity plants, clean water systems, train systems and telecommunications, would be moved forward from initial schedules as part of government efforts to accelerate the realized development of the 35,000-MW electricity program in 2016.
Indroyono said the five sectors were selected as their realization was difficult, so the planning of their construction needed to be conducted earlier. (ebf)(++++)
