he Semarang city National Sports Council (KONI) treasurer, attended his trial on Thursday in a corruption case involving grant funds for sports branches in Semarang in 2012 and 2013.
Public prosecutor Nur Indah Setyaningrum indicted that the defendant had caused the state to lose Rp 1.57 billion (US$116,000) in state funds.
The amount of state loss, added Nur was based on calculation by public accountants.
'Based on audit, the state has incurred a loss of Rp 412 million (US$30,700) from the 2012 city budget and Rp 1.1 billion (US$81,900) from the 2013 budget,' Nur was quoted by Antara as saying.
According to him, Semarang KONI was awarded a grant worth Rp 7.9 billion (US$588,400) in 2012 and RP 12 billion (US$893,800) in 2013.
The grant, added Nur, should have been channeled to all the sports branches for operational expenses, but had instead been appropriated by the defendant on the grounds of assisting with KONI's operational costs.
