In a jam: Thousands of vehicles travel along the newly opened Cipali toll road near Cirebon in West Java on July 15 as millions of people from Jakarta and its agglomeration headed to their hometowns in central and eastern Java

Your comments on the opening of the 116.75-kilometer Cikopo'Palimanan (Cipali) toll road. The new highway has helped ease the flow of traffic in the seasonal exodus for people living in the western part of Java to cities and towns in Central and East Java, and back again, but dozens have become victims of traffic accidents since it opened:
Despite the new toll road, it took me nearly 30 hours to reach Jakarta from Ngawi, East Java. It takes only 12 to 16 hours normally.
Traffic always happens during this time and I for one have no idea how to resolve this problem.

The responsibility for accidents lies in the reckless driving of the motorists.
Many have no respect for the rules and show astounding egoism. This is true on roads throughout the country. Law enforcement is nowhere to be seen.

Some motorists involved in traffic accidents feel they do not need to rest after hours of driving; they moreover disregard traffic signs. They think that driving is only about accelerating, overtaking and turning left and right.

The design and construction of the highway do not meet the minimum international standards for high-speed roads.

The Cipali toll road has contributed significantly to easing congestion for people traveling from Jakarta eastward.
Although there are now three main roads to the east, people prefer to try the newest Cipali route.
The road is not completely ready, however ' not all signs have been put up and there are few rest areas.
The long stretches, heavy
traffic and fatigue cause a lot of accidents ' let's hope they ease in the future.
