ass organization Laskar Bali has called on Denpasar District Court (PN) judge, Achmed Peten Sili, to reject a pre-trial hearing request in the murder case of Engeline, 8, who was found dead in the backyard of her family's house in Denpasar, Bali, on May 10.
'We are calling on the judge to reject the pre-trial hearing request in the murder case and instead impose a maximum sentence to Margriet,' said I Wayan Suata, a Laskar Bali supporter, as quoted by Antara on Monday.
He referred to Margriet Christina Megawe, 60, Engeline's adoptive mother the police have named a suspect in the victim's murder case.
Wayan said that Margriet's pre-trial hearing request must be rejected because the police had obtained enough evidence to name her a suspect.
Wayan said that Laskar Bali was also committed to supporting police officers and prosecutors in their efforts to close the case. In his oration in front of the court, Wayan said that it was hoped that the Bali Police could completely investigate the murder case of Engeline, an elementary school student who was found buried in the backyard of a house belonging to her adoptive mother, Margriet, on Jl. Sedap Malam, Denpasar.
Laskar Bali hoped that the panel could bring the perpetrators to justice so that there would be no similar cases in the future.
Antara reported that thousands of supporters from mass organizations, including Laskar Bali, Baladika and Pemuda Bali, staged a rally to convey their support to the police investigation in Engeline's murder case in front of PN Denpasar. They packed the court's yard to monitor the pre-trial hearing session, causing traffic congestion along Jl. Panglima Besar Sudirman, Denpasar. Hundreds of police officers were deployed to secure the hearing session. (ebf)
