Your comments on a 6-year-old girl who has returned home safely after being kidnapped thanks to CCTV cameras, intensive media coverage and helpful social media enthusiasts:

It is compulsory for public areas and buildings to have enough CCTVs to cover even the '€œhidden'€ areas in order to observe and prevent all crime.

I thank the media for their intensive coverage that helped save the life of an innocent girl.

We must all install CCTVs in crowded buildings as soon as possible in order to properly monitor everyone'€™s demeanor.

CCTV has proved able to save a life, so more cameras will surely save more lives.

John Berkhmans

The man who kidnapped her was unable to walk around with the girl, because everyone had already seen his face '€” I think he had no idea what to do with her and it was stressing him out.

He had no further options, so he abandoned her, I gather, with a cab driver.

I warn parents to take extra care of their small children. Most CCTV do not help. In some cases, security officers delete CCTV footage.

There could be any number of reasons behind the girl being returned perhaps the CCTV picture was so clear that the kidnapper simply gave up.

The child'€™s parents were indeed very careless, and should be properly reprimanded. The police are right to continue going after the kidnappers. Everyone needs to be extra careful!

Well done all that played a part. See what can be achieved when the will is strong.  The same community spirit should be applied to corruption at every opportunity.

Tobacco taxes for the health budget

The Health Ministry and lawmakers have urged the Finance Ministry to earmark all government revenue from tobacco taxation for the health budget as the sector is heavily burdened by medical issues brought about by tobacco consumption. What do you think?
