The Thousand Islands regency administration has asked that tourists, both locals and foreigners, who visit the island '€œdress modestly'€.

Thousand Islands'€™ Tourism and Culture Agency head Irfal Guci said that more and more tourists had visited the island over the years. Thus, he said, the office felt the need to encourage tourists to dress appropriately to respect local residents.

Your comments:

Cultural acceptance is a two-way street. Locals are apparently '€œinsulted'€ by white skin being exposed, but have no problem taking money from the visiting people.

It'€™s obvious that the complaints are coming from religious organizations. Additionally, if the government feels visitors are dressed inappropriately change the laws as to what is '€œinappropriate'€ dress so that the government can extract fines from the tourists.

Here we go again! As if a 150 percent hike in alcohol prices isn'€™t enough, we'€™ve got to bring in the moralists. Just put up signs to advise everybody where they are.

When I was in Balikpapan and Bontang many years ago, locals were protesting the free movies for promoting decadent Western culture. Simple, don'€™t watch the movies and stop your kids from watching too!
