he 2015 Yonex Sunrise Doubles Special Badminton Championship is set to feature more doubles events in its seventh edition, which will be staged from July 29 through Aug. 1 at the Asia-Pacific Badminton Hall in Senayan, Jakarta.
Unlike the previous events, which only staged men's doubles, the organizers have decided to feature women's doubles and mixed doubles events this year.
'Doubles events have become the spearhead of Indonesia's badminton achievements; we want to support the development of those events further,' tournament organizer Candra Wijaya said in a statement on Monday.
The men's doubles specialist, who won gold at the 2000 Sydney Olympics with his then partner Tony Gunawan, said there were 56 clubs throughout the nation as well as clubs from Belgium, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore and Japan that had confirmed their participation at the Rp 300 million (US$22,257) tournament. The tournament will feature doubles events for U-15, U-17 and U-19 groups.
'This year we will carry out forensic tests on those who advance to the quarterfinals to avoid age falsification among the athletes,' added Candra.
