British Prime Minister David Cameron has said that the UK government aims to share its success stories by giving contributions to development activities in Indonesia , which is projected to join the list of top 10 biggest economies in the world by 2030.
'Indonesia has huge potential. If Indonesia currently ranks the 16th biggest economy in the world, it is predicted that by 2030, it will become the 10th biggest economy,' he said as quoted by Antara news agency during the closing ceremony of UK-Indonesia Business Forum in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Indonesia is the first non-European country PM Cameron has visited since he was re-elected as the British prime minister.
Cameron said that Indonesia had a lot of good opportunities to develop its trade and investment. It is estimated that Indonesia has a population of around 250 million and many young people in the country have a good grasp of advanced technologies.
The British prime minister stated that many companies from his country, such as UK-based international retail group Marks and Spencer, insurance company Prudential and aircraft manufacture company Airbus, had been successful in developing their businesses in Indonesia. Prudential now has more than 2 million of customers.
'We want more UK-based companies to follow their success stories [of developing businesses in Indonesia],' said Cameron.
He further said that following its success in organizing the Olympic Games, the UK was ready to help Indonesia to organize the 2018 Asian Games.
The prime minister said he hoped that cooperation could be closely built not only between Jakarta and London but also among other regions in Indonesia and the UK.
Cameron said that the UK was also known for its reputation as a center of Islamic finance in the West.
'We have a reputation both in transparency and in the fight against corruption,' he said. The UK was also home to the best universities in the world and the country would be happy to welcome students from Indonesia, he added. (ebf)(++++)
