dance drama performance featuring 100 members of the young generation initiated by Ary Suta Center (ASC) dance academy is set to grace the Jakarta Art Theater (GKJ) on August 12-13.
Titled Panji Inu, the dance drama will be showcased in collaboration with video mapping technology to create a more lively and thrilling performance.
"Amid information technology that keeps growing and infects us all, traditional culture is increasingly overlooked compared to the modern arts. Hopefully dance drama will help preserve our national heritage," said the event's spokesperson MF Murti Haryati as quoted by Antara news agency.
In addition to school children and university students, the event will also feature senior dancers and artists, including renowned choreographers Ayu Bulantrisna Djelantik and Dewi Sulastri, young choreographers Bathara Saverigadi Dewandoro and Agung Panji, and percussion composers Dedek Wahyudi and I Ketut Saba.
The dance drama itself is said to tell the story of the king of the Brawijaya Kingdom, Prabu Airlangga, during the end of his reign. The huge kingdom was later divided into two by Mpu Baradah into Kediri and Jenggala. As the story goes, the two kingdoms reunited again thanks to the wedding between Prince Inu Kertapati from the Kediri Kingdom and Princess Candra Kirana from the Jenggala Kingdom. Deeply in love until death, the couple is symbolized by a mountain (Inu) hugged by clouds (Candra). (kes) (++++)
