outh Jakarta Police suspended the detention of a mother who was named as a suspect for allegedly abusing her 12-year-old son in response to a request from the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI).
KPAI secretary general Erlinda said the commission had requested the suspension following a successful mediation between the mother and the son on Monday, which was also attended by his two sisters.
'The son has forgiven his mother. It is seen from a meeting, which we facilitated yesterday,' Erlinda said as quoted by kompas.com on Tuesday, adding that the son also hugged the mother.
Nevertheless, within the next three months, the mother will not be in touch with the children as she has to undergo drug and mental rehabilitation in the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and the Social Ministry respectively, Erlinda said. She added that the children would be taken care of by their aunt.
Separately, South Jakarta Police detective chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Audie Latuheru said the legal process would still continue as police did not drop the case.
