The Persatuan Islam (Persis) Muslim group, which has a stronghold in West Java, has guaranteed the safety of churches in the province following the Tolikara tragedy in Papua.

Persis West Java chapter vice-secretary Dadang Fahmi urged every Persis member across the country to do the same thing.

'€œWe understand the Tolikara issue is not a religious issue, but there are parties that would like to disunite Indonesia,'€ Dadang said after addressing around 400 Persis members at the West Java legislative building in Bandung on Thursday.

We must maintain religious tolerance because Indonesia was formed by many people of various religions and beliefs. Keep the tolerance and pile our pride upon it.

Indonesians are multicultural by nature: multiple religions, languages, dialects, food, customs and so forth.

All can live and work together in harmony. Let'€™s not accept this imported ideology of mono-culturalism. It is poison.

There is no need to protect churches or mosques or any other house of worship. Just implement the law and enforce the constitution.

If the law is enforced without favor to anybody, fair and just, attacks on churches and so forth simply would not exist!
