raft convict Ratu Atut Chosiyah has been officially dismissed from her post as Banten governor, a minister said on Tuesday.
With the dismissal, Atut will soon be replaced by Deputy Governor Rano Karno.
'The President's decision on Atut's dismissal has been issued following a final and binding cassation ruling from the Supreme Court [which sentenced Atut to seven years' imprisonment],' said Home Minister Tjahjo Kumolo on Wednesday.
In its ruling, which was handed down in February, the Supreme Court also stripped Atut of the right to run for public office following her conviction for graft.
'The process [to inaugurate Rano] will take at least two weeks depending on how fast the plenary meeting of the Banten provincial legislative council happens,' Tjahjo added.
The Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced Atut to four years in prison in September last year for paying a Rp 1 billion (US$74,208) bribe to then Constitutional Court chief justice Akil Mochtar in return for ruling in favor of political candidates she backed who had filed an election dispute petition at the court.
