resident Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo has plans to build a presidential palace in Jayapura, Papua, a person close to the president has said.
Quoting the chief of presidential staff Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, the spokesperson for the Tolikara administration in Papua, Derwes Jigwa, said on Wednesday that the President was interested in having an office in Papua.
'The president will build the palace this year,' Derwes said as quoted by tempo.co.
Derwes said Luhut shared the plan during his visit to a top school in Tolikara regency in Papua on Tuesday.
It is still unclear why Jokowi has chosen Papua but the President has committed to encouraging development in all sectors in the province. His three main agendas, Luhut says, cover improvement of education, infrastructure development and corruption eradication.
Since Jokowi took the oath as President in October last year, he has worked in the Presidential Palace in Jakarta even though he sometimes uses Bogor palace, a two-hour drive from Jakarta, as a venues for meetings. (ika)(++++)
