Indonesia enters Hong Kong ballet contest

Indonesia is participating for the second time in the Asian Grand Prix ballet competition, being held in Hong Kong from Aug. 10 to 14.

'€œThis year is the event'€™s fifth year and this is the second time that Indonesia is taking part,'€ said Truli Rizki Ananda, one of the ballet coaches for the Indonesian team, as quoted by Antara news agency on Monday.

She added that Indonesia reached the semi-finals in the junior category last year.

'€œI really hope that this year we can do better. However, winning is not the only thing that matters to me but also how the event can boost the ballerinas' spirits, broaden their knowledge and improve their ballet dancing skills,'€ Truli explained.

This year, the Indonesian team is represented by seven ballerinas from Namarina dance academy.

'€œThe participants will perform one of the repertoire ballets, such as Swan Lake. They will be assessed based on their dancing technique, musicality and their ability to embody their character,'€ Truli said.

Truli admitted that the teams from other countries were all strong competitors.

'€œLast year'€™s winners were from Japan. But again, our mission is to increase our awareness and knowledge of ballet, including technique,'€ she said. (nov/ika)(++++)
