mong numerous other projects in the pipeline, the government has decided to utilize more qualifications of the Agency or the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) to conduct studies and engineering planning.
From now on, BPPT will be involved in more projects, particularly those related to the energy and mining sector. Agreements highlighting the move were signed on Monday, involving BPPT, the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry and state-owned oil and gas giant Pertamina.
Based on the agreements, BPPT will be in charge to handle various studies and projects ' including the feasibility study and front-end-engineering-design ' which were previously carried out by private consultants.
'The government wants to strengthen the national engineering capacity and BPPT can be the backbone for this,' Vice President Jusuf Kalla said after witnessing the signing ceremony for the agreement.
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said revealed that the agreement would be immediately effective.
'For now, BPPT will do the project planning and prepare the engineering designs so that in October we can start the tender process for projects to be carried out in 2016,' Sudirman said.
