T

he Democratic Party and the National Mandate Party (PAN)have formed a coalition and registered candidate pair Rasiyo and Dhimam Abror to run in the Surabaya mayoral election to challenge incumbent Mayor Tri '€œRisma'€ Rismaharini and Deputy Mayor Whisnu Sakti Buana in the next mayoral election.

'€œI have registered as I was endorsed by the Democratic Party and PAN,'€ Rasiyo, who was former East Java Education Agency head, told reporters on Tuesday.

Rasiyo was also a member of the campaign team of Governor Soekarwo, who is also chairman of the Democratic Party'€™s East Java chapter, while Abror is the former chief editor of Jawa Pos daily.

The registration of Rasiyo and Abror for the Dec. 9 election means the election will not have wait until 2017, since the popular Risma is no longer the sole candidate.
