he Democratic Party and the National Mandate Party (PAN)have formed a coalition and registered candidate pair Rasiyo and Dhimam Abror to run in the Surabaya mayoral election to challenge incumbent Mayor Tri 'Risma' Rismaharini and Deputy Mayor Whisnu Sakti Buana in the next mayoral election.
'I have registered as I was endorsed by the Democratic Party and PAN,' Rasiyo, who was former East Java Education Agency head, told reporters on Tuesday.
Rasiyo was also a member of the campaign team of Governor Soekarwo, who is also chairman of the Democratic Party's East Java chapter, while Abror is the former chief editor of Jawa Pos daily.
The registration of Rasiyo and Abror for the Dec. 9 election means the election will not have wait until 2017, since the popular Risma is no longer the sole candidate.
