water shortage has affected Tangerang, Banten, over the past few days, impacting the daily lives of its residents.
Sri Rosdiana, a resident of Perumnas I, Tangerang, said her family had been forced to purchase water for Rp 5,000 (36 US cents) per 19 liters to fulfill their daily needs during the last three days.
'We don't even use it to bathe, but only to wash our faces and brush our teeth,' she said on Wednesday, adding that the water crisis had also affected her food delivery business.
Water operator in Tangerang regency PDAM Tirta Kerta Raharja president director Rusdy Machmud indicated the decreasing production capacity of water treatment facilities in Cikokol was the cause of the water supply crisis in the region. The capacity decreased to 150 liters per second from 1,200 liters per second.
'We couldn't get enough raw water from the Cisadane River as the water volume decreased,' he said.
Rusdy cited prolonged dry season and a broken sluice gate as factors that have worsened the crisis, tempo.co reported.
