usician David Foster, who co-wrote mega hits such as "Hard to Say I'm Sorry", will hit another high note with his new role as AirAsia's global brand ambassador.
The record producer, composer and songwriter, who is also a pilot and self-proclaimed 'aviation freak', said he jumped at the chance when it was offered to him by his friend Tony Fernandes.
'This is a heart-and-soul project for me. My love for aviation, Southeast Asia and Tony Fernandes have come together,' he told a press conference yesterday.
Foster said he was impressed by AirAsia's evolution, noting that there was no aircraft in its fleet older than 10 years.
'It's just extraordinary; not many airlines do that. It's a winner all the way,' he said.
The 16-times Grammy winner also said that finding 'a global Asian superstar' was on his bucket list.
He paid tribute to Asian talent such as Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna, who he is working with.
Foster said Yuna had just recorded a duet with American singer Usher.
'I think that might be the thing that takes her to the top. I have 100 per cent faith in her, she has a beautiful soul,' he said.
Fernandes, who is AirAsia group chief executive officer, said it was a no-brainer to have Foster as the airline's first global ambassador.
'There will be David Foster livery on the plane. His face will be on the side of the plane,' he said.
Fernandes also disclosed that Foster was the first person to send him a text message when Flight QZ8501 crashed last year, adding that the message gave him 'tremendous inspiration for that very difficult time'.
He believed Foster, as the global ambassador, would reach audiences and show them that AirAsia provides 'a fantastic product and value, especially now in tough economic times'.(++++)
