tate-owned railway company PT KAI will build a four-level trade center building beside the Jatinegara Station in East Jakarta in a bid to convert its land into a commercial site.
The upcoming building, which will be built by KAI's subsidiary Kereta Api Property Management (KAPM), is set to provide train passengers with increased access and parking space, according to KAPM business development director Ari Mulyono.
Ari said that the first level of the building would function as a space to accommodate passengers and pedestrians. Meanwhile, the second level would function as motorcycle parking lot with a capacity to accommodate 250 motorcycles.
Teaming up with traditional market operator PD Pasar Jaya, KAI plans to make the third and fourth level of the trade center a trading house for gemstone sellers from the Rawa Bening traditional market. The building will be connected to the traditional market that is also known as the Jakarta Gems Center.
'There is a lot of KAI land nearby commuter line stations that could be converted into strategic property with good economic value in the future,' said Ari as quoted by kompas.com.
