ollywood'€™s superheroes, Star Wars'€™ Darth Vader and The Walking Dead'€™s zombies are coming to life to enliven the first edition of the Jakarta Comic Con, scheduled for Sept. 25 to 27 at the JIExpo, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.

'€œWe had Comic Cons in Bangkok in 2014 and 2015 and they were a huge success. We are adopting the concept of San Diego Comic Con and bringing it to Indonesia, where the market is even bigger than in Thailand,'€ Ongard Prapakamol, managing director of BEC-Tero TrueVisions, the Jakarta Comic Con organizer, told a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The organizer expects to lure up to 75,000 comic aficionados to the three-day event, which brings together personnel working in the film, television and animation industries from Hollywood and across Asia, including actors, producers, directors, distributors, production designers and key players in the toy industry.

Fans will have a chance to meet and exchange ideas about their favorite films, animations and artists.

'€œPeople in their 20s and 30s, who enjoy Hollywood superhero movies or TV series, will enjoy the pop culture [coming to life]. There will be a lot of collectible toys and animation-related products in the event,'€ Prapakamol said.

Highlights of the event will include the appearance of Kelly Hu, a cast member of X-Men 2, an HBO exhibition in which fans of The Game of Thrones can feel the series'€™ universe, movie releases and an attraction involving zombies from the comic-adaptation series The Walking Dead. Visitors are also expected to participate in a cosplay competition to win millions of rupiah in prize money.

World class channels and studios such as HBO, FOX International Channels, Paramount, the Star Wars 501st Legion and Universal Channel have confirmed they will take part in the Jakarta Comic Con 2015.

'€œHBO Asia will bring the iron throne used in The Game of Thrones set for its fans in Jakarta. Actors from our latest thriller Halfworlds, slated to air by the end of this year, will also participate in the event,'€ HBO Asia head of sales and affiliate marketing Jacelyn Kek said.

Meanwhile, FOX International Channels Indonesia will use the momentum to release the latest installation of the award-winning series The Walking Dead.

'€œWe will release The Walking Dead season six at the Comic Con. We will also offer a grand prize: a trip to Hong Kong to enjoy The Walking Dead attraction at Ocean Park, for visitors who subscribe to our channel on the spot,'€ FOX International marketing manager Tiara Sugiyono said.

Beside international channels and studios, local talents, such as movie director Joko Anwar and comic artist Sunny Gho, who worked for DC Comics and Marvel, will also join the event.

'€œLocal artists have gained recognition as some of our actors have been cast in Hollywood movies like Captain America. A lot of our local comic artists have gone international, as well. This is a good opportunity to see and be seen,'€ Wendy Chandra, the president director of publisher PT Megindo Tunggal Sejahtera, said.

The Anime Festival Asia 2015, in which visitors can enjoy Japanese anime-related content, will also be held simultaneously.

'€œVisitors can enjoy the best of Hollywood [comics] and Japanese anime at the event,'€ Anime Festival Asia executive director Shawn Chin said.

Ticket prices to the Comic Con event are set at Rp 80,000 (US$5.70) per day per person. The organizers also provide combo tickets for both Comic Con and Anime Festival Asia for Rp 150,000 per day.
