Economy in brief: Thai Lion Air opens Bangkok-Singapore route

T

hai Lion Air, a subsidiary of Indonesia'€™s largest private airline Lion Air, will launch its new Bangkok-Singapore service on Saturday.

The carrier has flown an international route in the past, Bangkok-Jakarta, but that service was closed for economic reasons.

According to Thai Lion Air CEO Aswin Yangkirativorn, Singapore is a potential market for the airline as it is one of the world'€™s most popular shopping destinations.

Initially, Thai Lion Air will serve the Bangkok-Singapore route with one flight per day, or seven flights per week, with a Boeing 737-900 ER that can accommodate 215 passengers.

The company has set a passenger occupancy target of 90 percent for the service. '€œThe maiden flight is almost full,'€ said Aswin as quoted by kontan.co.id.
