AGO finds alleged fictive payment in North Sumatra graft case

nvestigators from the Attorney General Office (AGO) may have uncovered a fictive payment related to the graft of social assistance (Bansos) funds in the North Sumatra administration, said in Jakarta on Friday.

AGO spokesman Tony Spontana said in Jakarta on Friday that investigators had seized a number of documents, including evidence of an unexplained payment of Rp 200 million (US$14,570). The documents were found during raids on five offices of the North Sumatra administration.

'€œThe total payments across the five offices reaches Rp 1 billion,'€ he was quoted by tempo.co as saying.

According to Tony, the raids also related to an investigation into the alleged misuse of school operational assistance (BOS) funds and the North Sumatra annual budget from 2011 to 2013.

Asked about the involvement of suspended North Sumatra Governor Gatot Pujo Nugroho in the case, he said that his office has not come to a final conclusion. '€œI just got the report about the results of the raids. Regarding the possible involvement of certain officials, I'€™ll leave it to the investigators to comment,'€ he added.

Gatot, a Prosperous Justice Party politician, and his wife Evi Susanto, are currently being detained by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) after they were named suspects in a bribery case involving three Medan State Administrative Court (PTUN Medan) judges. The bribery was allegedly devised by lawyer OC Kaligis, who was earlier named a suspect in the case.

Tony said that the AGO would name suspects in the social assistance corruption case soon after the investigators returned to Jakarta.

He said the investigators had questioned five officials in the North Sumatra Administration, including then deputy governor Erry Nuradi, who is now acting governor, regional secretary Hasban Ritonga, former regional secretary Nurdin Lubis, former Finance Bureau Baharuddin Siagian and administrative assistant Hasiholan Silaen.

In the case, Gatot has been accused of abusing his power as governor when distributing the Bansos and BOS funds in 2013.

The North Sumatra Prosecutors'€™ Office started the investigation in 2014. The North Sumatra administration has now taken the case to the Administrative Court. (bnn)(++++)
