ithuania Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius arrived at City Hall to meet Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama on Thursday morning to discuss diplomatic relations and business potential between their respective countries.

"We are discussing business potential across various sectors such as renewable energy and aviation to strengthen our relationship," said Linkevicius on Thursday as quoted by tempo.co.

According to Ahok, Lithuania is set to open a consular office for Asia in Kuala Lumpur. But Ahok says he assured Linkevicius that Jakarta would be a better location.

"Jakarta is the headquarters of Southeast Asia. If we can convinced [Linkevicius] of this, it will be great," said Ahok.

Ahok also said that Lithuania can offer business partnerships in the energy sector. The country is especially renowned for high-capacity solar cell technology.

"[Linkevicius] wants to borrow our schools as sites for installing solar cells. It will be their investment, then the electricity will be sold to [state-owned electricity firm] PLN, and the money goes to us," said Ahok.

Linkevicius is set to sign three agreements with Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi on Thursday night regarding bi-lateral relations and technical economic cooperation.

"Lithuania has very advanced technology. We are also part of the European Union [EU] which is Indonesia's main investor. Thus, the agreement will strengthen the EU's relations with Indonesia," said Linkevicius. (kes)
