AKARTA: The Jakarta police have arrested a man, named Tomo, on suspicion of pickpocketing on intercity buses plying routes from Pulo Gadung bus terminal in East Jakarta.

According to the Jakarta Police'€™s mobile detective chief. Adj. Sr. Comr. Eko Hadi Santoso, Tomo has been engaged in pickpocketing for 25 years, and was previously imprisoned for two years in Salemba prison in Central Jakarta.

'€œHe said that he had been stealing money since 1990,'€ said Eko on Friday, adding that the suspect was something of a celebrity at the terminal, having been given the nickname Raja Copet (King of Pickpockets) by bus drivers and attendants.

The police confiscated two smartphones and Rp 2.3 million (US$165) in cash from Tomo, and are currently hunting three men, identified as Yanto Gondrong, Heri and Yanto Bota, suspected of being Tomo'€™s accomplices.
