Police to summon Pelindo II boss next week

T

he National Police's Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) is set to summon state-owned port operator Pelindo II'€™s president director Richard Joost Lino in early September for questioning regarding the procurement of fixed crane-type loading and unloading equipment.

'€œWe are going to ask him to clarify findings made by our investigators,'€ the department'€™s director for special and economic crimes, Brig. Gen. Victor E. Simanjuntak, said on Saturday as quoted by kompas.com.

The findings, according to Victor, included 26 bundles of documents obtained from Richard'€™s office during a search on Friday.

Victor said there were two documents which revealed Richard'€™s role in the procurement that allegedly violated legal procedures, namely a document from an internal audit institution and another from the Development Finance Comptroller (BPKP).

Investigators will also ask questions regarding the procurement of other equipment including a ship simulator in 2013.

'€œPreviously, investigators found that the cranes were procured to be installed in eight seaports, which included Teluk Bayur, Palembang, Banten, Panjang and Pontianak. But now it'€™s already 2015; why were the cranes not immediately sent there? Why there was a delay?'€ asked Victor.

He added that authorities at the eight seaports had stated they did not need cranes or a ship simulator.

However, Victor refused to reveal any potential suspects as yet.

'€œActually we already have a suspect. We only need affirmation. The search [on Friday] was one of our efforts to collect more evidence. We will examine the potential suspect next week,'€ said Victor. (kes)(++++)
