he Jakarta Police's bomb squad detonated a homemade bomb circuit found by a resident in Kali Malang, Cipinang Melayu, East Jakarta, on Saturday.
Hasan, 40, found an iron paralon pipe along with a battery circuit and cables inside a plastic bag on the Kali Malang riverbank at 9:10 a.m. when cleaning the area.
He removed the bag and showed it to other residents. Suspecting that it may be a bomb, they decided to call the police.
'We were cleaning the area after the panjat pinang [greasy-pole climbing competition] and found the plastic bag. We suspected that it may be a bomb, that's why we reported the finding to the police,' he said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
According to East Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Umar Faruq, the Jakarta Police's bomb squad detonated the homemade bomb on the Kali Malang riverbed, around 100 meters from Cipinang Indah Mall.
'After receiving the report, we asked the Jakarta Police bomb squad for help. Ten of them came and combed the location before detonating the bomb,' he said.
