entral Statistics Agency (BPS) chairman Suryamin said on Tuesday that the inflation rate in August, which stood at 0.39 percent, was the lowest August inflation rate of the last five years.
'This is the lowest August inflation since 2010, and perhaps even since 2007,' he said as quoted by Antara in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Suryamin said that among the major contributors for the low inflation rate in August
were declines in land, sea and air transportation costs after the Idul Fitri festivity and relatively low vegetable prices in several areas across Indonesia.
'There has been deflation in the transportation sector and in agricultural products, especially after the Idul Fitri holiday,' he said. (ebf)(++++)
