he Jakarta provincial government is set to provide double-decker buses from the National Monument (Monas) to the Tanah Abang textile market to serve shoppers.
"We provide the buses to encourage more shoppers to go to Tanah Abang, but they don't have to bring their own vehicle, which results in traffic jams there," said Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama on Tuesday as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
According to Ahok, passengers will only have to pay once for the bus and that the tickets will be available at weekly, monthly and yearly rates.
In an effort to reduce the traffic jam in Tanah Abang, Ahok also revealed plans to increase parking fees in the area.
"We will set the parking fee as high as possible; anyone parked illegally will be towed," said Ahok. (kes)(++++)
