Actress Happy Salma has just published a biography of Balinese artist Desak Nyoman Suarti. The book is titled The Warrior Daughter.
Happy said she was inspired to write the book after she first met Suarti. Suarti is renowned as the queen of silver as she was one of the pioneers of Bali's silver industry.
'When I first saw her, I thought everyone needed to know about her work. Who else would introduce it to the public if not me?' Happy said as quoted by kapanlagi.com.
Happy said that for her, Suarti was more than just an ordinary woman or an artist. She believes Suarti's struggles for her art need to be acknowledged by more people.
'She does not even have an archive of her work. This book, I can only say, is a sketch of her life story,' she said.
