More than 100 Indonesian firms are set to participate at the 12th China-ASEAN Expo in Nanning, China, on Sept. 18-21.
According to the Indonesian trade attache in Beijing, Dandy S. Iswara, the 101 firms will showcase various local products such as food, beverages, furniture, house decorations, clothing, accessories and other consumer products.
"Indonesia's participation in the event offers opportunities to get to know China's huge potential market," said Dandy as quoted by Antara news agency.
Although China's economy is currently weakening, export opportunities are still very large. This is the time for Indonesian firms to increase exports since imported products from Indonesia are largely varied, said Dandy.
China has been one of Indonesia's biggest trading partners. In 2013, the two countries' trade value reached US$52.4 billion with an average growth rate of 19.6 percent per year between 2009 and 2013.
During last year's China-ASEAN Expo, Indonesia made trade transactions reaching $5.26 million, which included trial order results and retail, an increase of more than 85.5 percent compared to the previous year, which was $2.84 million.
The 12th China-ASEAN Expo also made mention of China-ASEAN maritime cooperation efforts through its theme: Maritime Silk Road of the 21st Century.
China's Vice Trade Minister Gao Yan said that relations and cooperation between China and ASEAN were increasing and that ASEAN was China's third biggest trade partner. (kes)(++++)
