ommenting on the rumors about the dismissal of the chief of the National Police's detective corps, Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso, director for special economic crime Brig. Gen. Victor Edi Simanjuntak has said that he will resign if the cause of the dismissal is due to the investigation into a corruption case at state port operator PT Pelindo II.
"If the crane case is the one that causes his dismissal, I will resign from the police force," Victor was quoted by tempo.com as saying on Wednesday.
The police are currently investigating alleged irregularities in the procurement of freight loading and unloading equipment by PT Pelindo II. Police investigators plan to question PT Pelindo II president director RJ Lino as a follow up the findings of a raid on the Pelindo II headquarters and Lino's office last Friday.
A number of news portals had earlier reported rumors about the dismissal of Budi Waseso. There has been no confirmation of the rumors.
Meanwhile, Budi said he regarded the crane case as a normal corruption case and stressed that the police had a warrant from the court to conduct the raids. He also rejected any intervention by any vested interests in the police investigation. (bbn)
