Twitter lures RI companies to promote globally

P

opular US-based social media network Twitter has formally launched its Twitter Audience Platform in Indonesia, one of its major markets, to help local companies promote themselves globally.

Twitter'€™s managing director for Southeast Asia, India, the Middle East and North Africa, Parminder Singh, said the new platform would enable advertisers to reach beyond the site'€™s 316 million global users through tapping into MoPub, the largest online advertising database in the world.

By doing so, local companies would be able extend the outreach of their advertisements to third party applications included in MoPub, potentially increasing the outreach to about 700 million, he said.

'€œThrough Twitter Audience Platform, advertisers are able to spread their promoted videos and engaged tweets to all the apps registered in the MoPub service in one click. It can increase the marketers'€™ incremental outreach by 130 percent,'€ he added.

The platform analyses the users of third party applications registered on MoPub and allows advertisers to broadcast their Twitter content across mobile platforms, without needing to step up their operations.

Singh said the reason the service was introduced in the country was because Indonesia remained a very important market for Twitter, therefore the company would keep investing in the country'€™s operations.

Newly appointed Twitter country director for Indonesia Roy Simangunsong added that cooperation with advertisers would be strengthened to further the site'€™s network and outreach within Indonesia.

'€œIn the future, we hope to increase our cooperation with Twitter'€™s Indonesian users as well as its partners in order to make it an even more reliable public platform,'€ Roy said at a Twitter event in Jakarta.

Simangunsong, who previously served as CEO for PT Linktone (which operates online media site Okezone) took over the position after former country business head Rick Mulia left the job in 2014.

Since opening its official Indonesian office in March 2015, Twitter has carried out a number of significant projects in the country, such as the PetaJakarta service in collaboration with the Jakarta administration, which utilizes Twitter updates and geolocation to map out flooded areas in Jakarta.

Also, social media campaigns such as '€œNyalakan Indonesia'€, which celebrated the 70th anniversary of Indonesian Independence Day with the hashtag #RI70, proved to be successful as it amassed up to 440,000 tweets on and around Aug. 17.
