Your letters: RI wants to have nuke plant in 2024

E

very country has its own history stretching out, different contributions at different times, under different circumstances. Look at the awesomeness of Borobodur '€” who made that? Who could do that today? People of all colors care deeply about Indonesia. And what Strontium 90 does to the food chain.

When a generation is born that can locally handle this stuff, then great '€” go nuclear. Then the crisis won'€™t stem from who mined it, processed it, stored it or secured it '€” it will just be a force of nature that we can blame, like say a tsunami, volcano, earthquake. Let it go.

Work with Elon Musk, build a few solar cities '€” there has been more support for green tech on this thread then there has been for having nukes. Pakistan plans to have 30 or so plants by 2050. They started their academic research in the 1950s. Take some time to develop this in any case, you'€™ll be glad you did.

China, Japan, Germany and India now produce more energy from renewables than nuclear power. (Three out of four of the world'€™s largest economies).

Globally the industry is in steady decline overall, but I get the sense that it'€™s not usefulness you want but rather the perception that you'€™re a big player on the nuke stage '€” like showing up at a party with Paris Hilton as your date.

People will take notice if you develop nuclear weapons. Not so much if you'€™re losing money while poisoning your environment. So which is it, honestly?
