he National Police's director for special economic crimes Brig. Gen. Victor Edi Simanjuntak said on Thursday that an attempt to dismiss his boss was designed to stop the police from investigating corruption cases.
Victor once again threatened to resign should the National Police dismiss the chief of the National Police's detective corps Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso.
"Everybody knows there is interference in this dismissal [threat]," Victor said, as quoted by Tempo.co on Thursday.
Victor said that rumors of Budi's dismissal had destroyed the morale of investigators in the field.
He complained about how this issue had emerged during the police's investigation into a major corruption case involving state-owned port operator PT Pelindo II.
"We are about to uncover a case worth of trillions of rupiah. When we go to investigate it, we're being destroyed," said Victor.
The dismissal of his boss, according to Victor, would hinder the police's efforts to eradicate corruption.
"If it is true that Buwas [Budi Waseno] will be dismissed, it means that corruptors have won over the police institution," (rad/ika)
