Greater Jakarta: Tanah Abang sets locations for livestock vendors

T

anah Abang district in Central Jakarta is preparing three locations for livestock vendors to sell their herds for the upcoming Idul Adha (Islamic Day of Sacrifice) which will fall on Sept. 24, to avoid crowds along the roadside.

Tanah Abang district head Hidayatullah said that the locations would be in Kebon Melati subdistrict on an empty 3,000-square-meter plot of land belonging to PT Djarum, an empty 5,000-sq m plot at RW (community unit) 02 and along Jl. Stainles next to West Flood Canal (KBB).

'€œIf all the vendors agree, we will coordinate with the relevant authorities,'€ Hidayatullah said on Thursday as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

The district office, he said, would provide lights and water tanks to clean the cattle'€™s waste.

'€œWe will also deploy 320 contract workers to help the vendors clean the area,'€ he added.

Central Jakarta Maritime, Fisheries and Food Security Agency'€™s Livestock Division head Hasudungan Sidabalok said that the agency would provide medical staff and veterinarians for the cattle.

'€œThey will do a routine check of the herd and give vitamins so the cattle will be less stressed. If the cattle are stressed, their meat will toughen and taste different,'€ Hasudungan said.
