AKARTA: Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama swore in 327 echelon II, III and IV officials on Friday as part of a routine overhaul of the city administration.
Among those who were promoted include former district head of Jatinegara, East Jakarta, Syofian Taher, who was inaugurated as East Jakarta municipal administration assistant on development and environment. Ahok said that Syofian had proven to be a 'good leader with integrity'.
While Syofian was Jatinegara district head, he was involved in the forced eviction of the residents of Kampung Pulo, East Jakarta, who lived on the Ciliwung riverbanks.
Former district head of Pulogadung, East Jakarta, Teguh Hendrawan, was promoted to Transportation Agency deputy head. Those who were demoted include former City Council secretary Sotar Harahap and former Transportation Agency deputy head Pargaulan Butar.
Ahok said that he had personally handpicked many of the new officials and had been involved in interviewing the nominees. He reminded the new officials to work hard and to avoid corruption.
