Islands in focus: Batik compulsory for C. Java civil servants

P

EKALONGAN: Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo has made batik uniforms compulsory for all civil servants in the province as part of cultural preservation efforts.

The obligation to wear batik applies twice a week.

'€œThe Central Java administration supports batik and I have made a policy obliging all civil servants in the province to wear batik every Wednesday and Friday,'€ Ganjar said on the sidelines of his official visit to Pekalongan on Friday.

Ganjar said he wanted batik artisans in Pekalongan to continue developing batik products of good quality, while at the same time managing waste properly so it does not have an environmental impact.

Ganjar added that the majority of the 35 regions in Central Java, especially those with batik production centers, had applied the policy obliging civil servants to wear batik.
